🛕 | 115. Jagdamba Temple, Tahakari, Maharashtra
Hidden in the Sahyadri valleys of Akole taluka, beside the Adhala River, stands a remarkable 12th-century temple that deserves far more attention.
The Jagdamba Temple at Tahakari carries an inscription dating it to 1128 CE — almost nine centuries of history carved into stone.
And the deeper you look, the more extraordinary it becomes.

A 1204 CE Nāgara masterpiece
Built in 1204 CE by the merchant brothers Āhuka and Manyuka, Baijnath is one of the finest surviving examples of early-medieval North Indian Nāgara architecture in the Himalayan region.
Its tall, curvilinear śikhara rises dramatically over the sanctum, giving the temple its characteristic verticality. The temple was built over an earlier sacred site where a Śivaliṅga of Vaidyanātha already existed.

107. Dudhai Jain Temple - Dudhai village, Lalitpur district, Uttar Pradesh (India)
This region is home to a striking cluster of Hindu and Jain temples, once spread across a vast landscape, far beyond the small area they occupy today.
Even in their weathered and reduced state, these remnants offer a deeply moving experience - quiet, evocative, and soulful.
Dating back to the 9th–11th century (Chandela period), the site includes Jain temples dedicated to Shantinatha and Adinatha, now largely in ruins.
Yet, the scattered remains clearly point to what was once a thriving and expansive sacred settlement.

103. 🛕 Kailasha Temple – Ellora - SambhajiNagar
I’ve been thinking for a while about starting a thread on the Kailasa Temple
but the problem is, where do you even begin?
The temple is so overwhelming that it leaves you unsure of the first word.
That it isn’t counted among the Seven Wonders of the World makes one wonder - if not this, then what?
This is a temple where the margin for architectural error was zero.
Carved top to bottom, not built
one irreversible cut at a time.
Folklore tells us that a queen mother vowed not to eat
until she could see the shikhara of the temple.
Her son delayed, bound by duties
and yet, what emerged was something timeless.
This is a temple where Shiva witnesses your mortal self from every direction.
Where you see Him in all His divine forms,
reminding you that it has always been Him
even before the five tattvas came into existence.
This is the temple that even invaders abandoned
not for lack of intent, but for lack of possibility.
It is nothing , if you choose to see nothing.
It is everything , if you open your divine eyes.
It is art to an artist.
Colour to a painter.
Canvas of endless wonder to a photographer
Reclusion to a loner.
Celebration to a soul.
It reflects not what it is
but what you are ready to see.
The pinnacle of Indian temple architecture.
A testament to what happens
when science, mathematics, and faith move as one.

103. 🛕 Mahabodhi Temple – Bihar
The Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, is one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites in the world.
It marks the location where Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree. The temple, built in the 5th–6th century, showcases stunning Gupta-era architecture with a soaring pyramidal spire.
Since pictures weren’t allowed inside, we spent a good two hours simply soaking in the peace of the Mahabodhi Temple. I don’t have photos of the temple itself, but I did capture the beautiful pillars of the temple, which are now preserved in the Bodh Gaya Museum. (thread follows)
