Zashi's Cross Pay Mechanism: A First Timer’s Perspective I’ve been holding Zcash for a while now. Ngl, at first it was because @CQ_Elzz included it in the #12DaysOfZECmas campaign. Then, I just decided to hold - partly because I was too lazy to swap back. Partly because it could also serve as a leverage to interact with the @Zcash ecosystem in the future. Until today!!! As per campaign details of the #12DayaOfZECmas - use the Pay option. I decided to try the Pay option despite knowing almost nothing about how it works. I’d written about "CrossPay", but trying it for the first time felt like stepping into a new era of crypto. Hit send on USDC on NEAR chain but I didn't want to post without --- The "Wait, How?" Moment The first time I opened the Pay tab, I had no clue what I was doing. I had just sent ZEC to myself but it appeared as USDC on another chain in my wallet. Without using Relay or 1nch or other cross chain swap tools or apps. As how now? Of course I was skeptical. (No be juju be this?) So I decided to try again, but with something more 'difficult' thus time. I had a friend’s Bitcoin address and some ZEC in my shielded pool. Usually, to make this work, I’d have to: ➺ Send ZEC to an exchange. ➺ Swap it for BTC (and pay a fee). ➺ Withdraw it to my friend's wallet (and pay another fee). ➺ Lose all my privacy in the process. With Zashi, I just pasted the BTC address, included how much BTC I wanted to send and waited for block confirmations. It felt too simple. .... Understanding the "Invisible Bridge" As I dug into what was actually happening, I realized the "magic" was a clever hand-off using the NEAR Protocol. I knew I'd seen this NEAR Protocol somewhere before. From my perspective, it looked like a standard transaction. At least until I checked the transaction details. Under the hood, I was actually engaging in an Intent-Based Swap. Essentially, I wasn't just 'sending money'; I was broadcasting an intent: "I want to spend this much ZEC to ensure this person (address) receives that much BTC." NEAR acts as the invisible coordinator. It finds 'solvers', basically high-speed market makers, who see my intent and say, "I'll take that deal." They grab my ZEC and instantly settle the BTC payment on the other side. .... Why It Changed My Mindset The "Why" hit me halfway through the transaction: ➺ Privacy stays intact. And then it hit me! As opposed to sending BTC through my normal wallet, my ZEC left my shielded pool privately. The outside world doesn't see my total balance or my transaction history. They just see the final Bitcoin delivery. ➺ No "Exchange Fatigue" I didn't have to log into a centralized exchange or wait for KYC approvals. Have you seen the price of sending BTC on Bybit or Binance? With Zashi, I sent as low as 1$ worth of BTC. As I dug into what was actually happening, I realized the "magic" was a clever hand-off using the NEAR Protocol.

I knew I'd seen this NEAR Protocol somewhere before.
