And recon pulls through again, as tiny #Oscar (#16L) is now a #hurricane with winds of 70 kts and a pressure of 989 mb.

Tropical Storm #Oscar (#16L) is a classic example of why recon/direct obs are important. At 11am, @NHC_Atlantic began advisories on it as a 35 kt/1007 mb system. Recon has since determined that it is actually a 60 kt/991 mb system. It could briefly become a #hurricane today.

#Ophelia (#16L) has produced rainfall amounts of 2-3" across much of the #RVA area, with amounts closer to 4" in the yellow and red shaded areas. More rain to come as the storm crawls northward.

#Ophelia (#16L) remains a tropical storm with winds of 45 mph. The well defined inner core of the storm is moving into the Tri-Cities area and will be in #RVA in the next couple hours. Very strong winds with gusts to 50 mph are likely.

#Ophelia (#16L) has made landfall in NC west of Morehead City and is quickly pushing inland. Dry air has eroded away some of the associated rainfall, but heavy rain and stronger winds will be approaching #RVA later this morning.

#Ophelia (#16L) seems to be getting its act together. Radar suggests that an inner core (with an eye) is trying to develop. Still lots of dry air within the circulation but it just might make it to #hurricane status before landfall.
