Mansi Dixit, a 19-year-old aspiring model from Rajasthan, had been living in Mumbai for a few months. One day, a photographer named Syed Muzammil invited her for a photoshoot. During the shoot, Muzammil attempted to touch Mansi inappropriately. Mansi resisted. For Muzammil, a refusal from a 'Kafir' girl was an insult. Moreover, as a Brahmin, Mansi was a prime target for 'Love Jihad'. Enraged, Muzammil struck Mansi on the head with a stool. He then strangled her and raped her corpse. He tried to dispose of her body by stuffing it into a suitcase but was caught that very day. His family claimed in court that he suffered from mental health issues and should be released. On social media, Islamic groups mocked Mansi, cast aspersions on her character, and described Muzammil as a man who had enslaved her—much like the narrative being spun in the TCS case. At the same time, 'Love Jihad' is dismissed as mere propaganda.
