*STEP BY STEP PROCESS OF BECOMING A UNITED KINGDOM REGISTERED NURSE (UKRN)- UPDATED*
▪️Get an international passport
▪️ Preferably, write and pass IELTS/OET before starting the process as it is presumed to be the most challenging of all.
▫️IELTS (about #266k - #277k)- Minimum of Listening-7.0, Writing- 6.5, Reading- 7.0, Speaking- 7.0 and Overall - 7.0 . Combined result is allowed as long as none of the aspects is below 6.5 (writing not below 6.0)
▫️ Occupational English Test (OET, it is about 600k currently) - Minimum of Reading - B, Writing - C+, Listening - B, Speaking- B.
▪️Open an account with NMC UK via https://t.co/UDOvRscnTL
▪️Pay £140 after filling in the required information. At this stage, you need to upload the data page of your international passport, certificate (notification can be used here if your certificate isn't available yet) and IELTS/OET result (optional at this point).
You'll have a personalized NMC portal through which you can monitor your progress all through the whole registration process.
▪️ Pay #68,875 via NMCN portal for verification. A letter of good standing is needed from the employer and the nursing school attended.
▪️Wait to be verified and get authorization to test email from Pearson (the organization that handles the CBT exam) to book CBT.
Book the CBT (£83) and write the exam. You can buy a voucher for this on https://t.co/3amT1eYnYK (this can't be bought with a naira card) You will get a voucher code within 24-48 hours which you can input when you get to the payment stage of your CBT booking on Pearson site.
▪️Fill the final form by NMC UK which includes an upload of name of medical regulator, police clearance, notification/certificate and IELTS(academics)/OET result (without this, you can't progress beyond this stage and you must have the expected bands) among others
▪️Pay the final registration fee of £153 to NMC UK. This is needed so that you can get your pin from NMC UK (this pin is more like a license to practice)
▪️ You can start looking for a job at any stage but currently, most people do self-sponsorship to sit the OSCE exam (the final registration exam) in the UK.
To self-sponsor for the OSCE exam, the following is required
▫️Have a bank statement of at least 3 months showing monthly salary, gifts and any other income
▫️Apply for standard visitor's visa and include the bank statement, letter from employer to show ties to workplace (if possible), pictures of family ties to Nigeria, any land or house ownership, proof of OSCE booking (the exam costs £794), among others.
▫️Getting a UK-based sponsor helps too (a relative or friend). The sponsor should provide their bank statement, proof of employment, letter of support, and proof of address.
▫️To prepare for the exam, some people self-train using Youtube videos and study groups. Some people also pay professional OSCE trainers.
▪️OSCE result is released within 5 working days. Once passed and all relevant documents uploaded, the pin is released within 35 days. In case of failed stations, resits of 7 or less stations cost £397 while 8 or more costs £794.
▪️If possible, stay back in the UK within the validity of the visitor's visa and apply for jobs via https://t.co/iEpcqFVyKA, https://t.co/2YvQBXIkXo, https://t.co/lEMigwu8KE, among others. Try to also attend recruitment open days.
▪️Once a job is gotten, sign the offer letter and send your documents to the trust.
▪️Wait for a Certificate of Sponsorship by the trust (this replaces bank statements other direct visa applicants have to submit). It shows you have a sponsor that will support your stay in the UK. This COS also contains an employment start date. Ensure you don't have more than one trust processing this for you as it is quite expensive, which makes it unfair for the trusts and it can cause problems for you with the home office.
▪️ Go back to Nigeria (if still in the UK at this point, book your tier 2 visa and subsequently, your ticket
