Wishing everyone a happy Father’s day from the Martin clan.
It was a privilege to speak to the saints this morning on the weight and glory of Fatherhood.
The things we were passed down and inherited were pain, abandonment, struggle, etc. Though our start wasn’t beneficial, doesn’t declare that we finish with that hand. For the mercy of our Heavenly Father is new and just every day.

For our present moment, some of us were dealt with the “bastard hand” (Foster’s term). We didn’t have fathers present for us.

Look at God through His covenant with His people. Take Abraham. God calls him to Himself. Relocates him. Assigns him a mission. Provides His promise. Abraham builds.

In every aspect. Prepare the gates for defenses. Prepare your people to defend your place and offend against the enemies.
There are lions prowling, wolves creeping, powers stalking.
Stay at the ready.

Fathers leave an inheritance for their children’s children.
More than just a good work ethic.
There should be some financial peace, whether in the form of business, property, or assets.

One of our responsibilities as fathers is to provide key friendships/relationships for our children to imitate, learn from, and build in their own life.
Local Community (local common unity) plays this important role.

Fathers are the ones who allow what’s taught in their homes. We are the gatekeepers. We are the standard setters.

Some of the greatest fruit I see in our son is his gentleness. A skill he’s working and struggling through, but one I want him to be disciplined in. He’s understanding the difference between his younger sister and himself and it’s glorious to see.

Our children will habit the things we do in their presence.
The good and bad.
It’s not a race of doing more “good” things, but remaining faithful in their instruction, teaching, and training.
We need to remain patient, intentional, and jubilant.

It’s good to be a dad
One of the greatest lessons for me is getting a deeper understanding of God’s long suffering (patience).
Our children don’t come into the world knowing it all. It’s our responsibility to mold, shape, and teach with grace and patience.

Last year I took up the routine of reading at night to my kids. Doesn’t work every night, but as a result we have had some great conversations and memories.
Stories shape the imagination.
