[A day late 🤦♀️ but here's...] #30daysofpostgrad Day 3️⃣0️⃣❗️What's next? : I guess this is a good chance to announce that (pending a slow visa approval) I will be moving to Sweden next year to take up a postdoc position! 💁
Thanks everyone that followed for my 30 days! ☺️

Day 30 #30daysofpostgrad what's next? I'm currently trying to figure that out, there's a few areas I'm really interested in working in. The further through my PhD I get the more I realise I don't have to pick one job to do forever once I'm finished.
Day 30: Whats Next?? #30daysofpostgrad
I think I would quite like to teach, to put my research into practice and continue learning more about how we all learn. But first #christmas 🎄🎅🎁⛄️
#30daysofpostgrad Day 2️⃣9️⃣ Viva prep: We don't really have this in Australia for our PhD. My department doesn't even have a final seminar! It's a bit of an anticlimax when you finish but at least it's one less thing to stress about.
Day 29: Viva Prep... #30daysofpostgrad #phdchat
I still have 9 months to go, I haven't started any viva prep think I need to write the thesis first 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🔜👩🏻🎓
Day 28 #30daysofpostgrad Advice for a future student
Make the most of opportunities! Internships, student societies, conferences, training courses - do what you can make time for. There are so many amazing ways to learn new skills outside of your research/ develop new interests.
#30daysofpostgrad Day 2️⃣8️⃣ Advice for future students: Especially for younger PhD students: Don't spend the (many!) years of your PhD putting life on hold till you finish.
🌟Make time to live– see friends, create hobbies, go on holidays, sit in the sun, read books!🌟 #phdchat
#30daysofpostgrad Day 2️⃣7️⃣ One thing I would do differently:
I really wish I'd learnt how to code 👩💻 so that I would be more comfortable building on that skill in my postdoc rather than going in blind! 😣 #phdchat
Day 28: A piece of advice for a future student #30daysofpostgrad #phdlife
Make sure not to compare yourself to other PhD students. Everyone has a different background/experience and your project is completely unique. Progress is defined by yourself and not relative to others.
Day 28 #30daysofpostgrad advice for future students: plan time off! Burn out is very real and difficult to deal with, plan your holidays out ahead of time. I've also found using a bullet journal very helpful for all of my planning needs #phdchat
Day 27: One thing I would do differently #30daysofpostgrad #phdchat
I think it would have been useful to attend/look for more methods training in my first year. Could have given me the bigger picture before I made a decision on what techniques to use.
Day 26: ___ got me through! #30daysofpostgrad #phdlife
I'm not done yet but I think that so far keeping positive and having a great support network has got me through!
#30daysofpostgrad Day 2️⃣5️⃣ Any teaching?: Oh boy yes! I've demonstrated/tutored from 1st yr undergrad up to postgrad med. My fav is definitely 3rd yr immunology when the students are more engaged in the topic. ✨So much opportunity for immunology discussion and enthusiasm!✨
#30daysofpostgrad Day 2️⃣4️⃣ I prefer to write from:
☕️Cafes, always!☕️
The coffee, perfect background noise for concentrating, atmosphere, social vibe when you're actually on your own, working without the pressure of others working around you... what's not to love? 👩💻#PhDchat

#30daysofpostgrad Day 2️⃣3️⃣ Biggest achievement outside of research:
🏔Trekking in Nepal and climbing up to 4400m after I submitted my thesis.
🙈It was way out of my comfort zone and not something anyone expected I would do.
😀Yes, it was challenging– but so amazing!

Day 25: Done any teaching/tutoring? #30daysofpostgrad #phdchat
I've been working as a graduate teaching assistant for the last three years on a chemical engineering PBL course. Helped me keep some knowledge from my undergraduate despite my PhD being social sciences based.
#30daysofpostgrad Day 2️⃣2️⃣ Main finding: 👩🔬Natural killer cells (#NKcells) are needed by the immune system to control infection 💪but the sneaky chickenpox virus (VZV) 😈 infects NK cells and stops them from doing their job! 🙅
➡️We learn how lifelong infections affect our body
#30daysofpostgrad Day 2️⃣1️⃣ Something unexpected I've learned:
I never anticipated that doing experiments would train me to pour liquids better, open lids one-handed, and hold lots at once with ease. 😄👌
#lifeskills #phdlife

Day 24: I prefer to write from... #30daysofpostgrad #phdchat
the office, staying at home is always less productive.
