#Vaianu (#31P) appears to have transitioned back into a fully tropical cyclone not far from New Zealand. Despite SSTs of about 22°C, it has a deep warm core and a very compact inner core of convection with a small eye feature. These things don't normally happen in that area.

I don't know, I think #Vaianu (#31P) might be a tropical cyclone again. It still has a rather compact radius of maximum winds, a deep warm core, and plenty of deep convection near its center. It's certainly borderline.

#Vaianu (#31P) continues to sport subtropical characteristics despite being over 22-23°C waters N of New Zealand, with a small core of deep convection just E of the center. Post-tropical Vaianu still packs winds of 55 kts and will bring dangerous conditions to NZ this weekend.

#Maila (#30P) is strengthening again and will affect Papua New Guinea on Thursday. It could reach Cat 5 (AUS) strength before then. #Vaianu (#31P) is moving away from #Fiji and will become extratropical by Friday. It will bring dangerous conditions to New Zealand this weekend.

Cyclone #Vaianu ( #31P) has wobbled a bit east during the past few hours, and that makes me more concerned about wind in #Fiji, namely Mamanuca Islands (home of #Survivor) and Viti Levu. These areas could see sustained storm-force winds and heavy rain during the next 12-18 hrs.

TWIN STORMS - What a wild sight in the South Pacific! We have twin hurricanes, with #Maila on the left and #31P on the right. I'm not sure why the latter doesn't have a name — but that's above my pay grade. Maila has the potential to go nuclear and become an unprecedented Category 4 or 5 hurricane in the Solomon Sea, bringing catastrophic impacts to Papua New Guinea this week; it will be a big weather story. 31 is forecast to scrape by Fiji, but it's less of a big deal at this time. 🌀🌀

#31P which is still unnamed for whatever reason, is extremely close to being a C1 (SSHWS). You can see a bit of convection curling. This may end up having a pinhole eye given its CDO structure & how it curls around the center. #Vaianu is the next name on the list. #tropicswx

Remnants of Tropical Low #30U / Tropical Cyclone #31P have a very low chance of regenerating within two days near Northern Territory (Australia) and Timor.
