El #356SL fue el primer coche de carreras que fabricó Porsche y destacó por ser el 1.º en participar en las míticas 24 Horas de Le Mans y conseguir la 1.ª victoria en la categoría de 1.300cm3, en 1951. Tras este triunfo, la leyenda de Porsche en Le Mans no haría más que crecer.
