#3BadMen (1926) : An emotional and compelling silent Western by #JohnFord I’m not sure who started the rumour that this film influenced Akira Kurosawa’s The Hidden Fortress (1958), but having now seen both, I can safely say the latter has very little in common with Ford’s film. Speaking of 3 Bad Men, this is an engrossing and well-rounded drama. It has emotion, action, romance, humour, and a truly cruel villain—in short, everything that makes for a compelling entertainer. The film follows the story of three outlaws searching for gold. While on their way to steal horses, they save a young girl whose father is killed by a gang. Instead of going ahead with the theft, the group’s leader decides to return the horses, and the three men take the girl with them, vowing to look after her. When the townspeople begin mocking the girl for being in the company of these “bad men,” the trio decides to find her a suitable husband. Their search amusingly ends with the perfect choice—the very man the girl herself is drawn to. However, happiness is short-lived, as the town gang, led by the sheriff, is also after the gold and the girl. The three bad men must now protect her. But can they really stand up to such a large group of villains on their own? From here, you can imagine the kind of emotional ending that awaits, but I’ll leave it unspoiled. The film certainly turns sentimental by the end, and for the 1920s, it must have been a serious tear-jerker. The performances are solid, and there’s a slick sense of humour throughout. Some intertitles even manage to make you chuckle. That said, it remains a largely dramatic narrative with several moments of intense action. Ford creates a cinematic gem for its time—grand, moving, and surprisingly rich. Hoy que todos estáis hablando de #Oscars2025 , vamos a hablar de Cine, porque la próxima película en #CineDeLaAaLaZ es un peliculón que apuesto que casi ninguno ha visto. #3BadMen no tiene ningún Óscar, sencillamente porque cuando se hizo, el tío Óscar no había nacido.
