The #3rdOpenScienceSymposium has just begun!
Following an introduction by our colleague @elli_lib , the symposium has officially begun with salutations from the invited representatives of the Greek government; these included addresses from Zoe Rapti Deputy Minister of Development, Dr. Anastasios Gaitanis, Secretary General of Research and Innovation at the Ministry of Development, Demosthenis Anagnostopoulos, Secretary General of Information Systems & Digital Governance, Ministry of Digital Governance, Professor Nikolaos Papaioannou, Secretary General of Higher Education, and George Nounesis, Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Center for Natural Sciences Research @NCSR_Demokritos the host of the event.
While the first guests represented different forms of government and educational institutions, their speeches all shared a common thread; the fact that open access and open science hold a very significant position in the development of both the next steps in scientific research, but also the future of education and development.
Emphasis was placed on the need for funding for the creation of the needed #infrastructures, physical and electronic, as well as the need for alignment and coordination of R&D activities on a paneuropean level, to ensure that we all move forward together.

Next week brings about the
#3rdOpenScienceSymposium in Greece, organised by the #HellenicOpenSciencelnitiative.
The event, to be held at the National Center for Natural Sciences Research "Demokritos" on December 10-11, 2024, is geared towards the Greek #research and #AcademicCommunity, research program managers & representatives of important national organizations, infrastructures, initiatives & projects, to businesses, as well as to government agencies operating in the field of research & #Education.
#OpenAIRE will be participating actively during the 2-day conference, with presentations, headlining panels and discussions, alongside our partners from @GSRT _GR , @athenaRICinfo & representatives of OS institutions from all over #Greece and #Europe.
The conference will focus on both Greek national #OpenScience policies, the European framework for the development of open science, the #EOSC & its recently launch #EUNode, but also will touch on important topics such as national open science initiatives from other countries, legal issues around open science and open access as well as the development of EU OS #OpenAccess projects.
