#Lebanon #UNWithdrawal #Crosetto #GiorgiaMeloni #BeirutTrip #UNAnniversary #79YearsFailure The evacuation from Lebanon, requested by #Netanyahu, would undermine the #UNCredibility, Crosetto tells the #ItalianParliament. The #ItalianDefenseMinister sounds emotional, indeed pathetic. However, apparently or not, he has the support of his head of government, Giorgia Meloni, who today flies to #Beirut almost as if to underline her commitment to continue the #UNMission. Really? What mission? Whether either of them believe it is debatable. Maybe that is just a #DiplomaticShowOff. Because if that were not the case, they should ask themselves a serious question. This question: when has the #UN ever been credible? In less than a week it will be 79 years since the #UNFoundation (San Francisco, October 24, 1945). The United Nations was conceived by the American President #HarryTruman after the #SecondWorldWar, just as it was the American President #WoodrowWilson who conceived the #LeagueOfNations after the #FirstWorldWar. The first was a failure and the second was a failure. The League of Nations did not prevent the outbreak of the Second World War, just 21 years after its foundation. As for the UN, it never prevented the hundreds and hundreds of #ProxyWars promoted by the superpowers during and after the #ColdWar. It did not bring back, much less preserve, peace in any corner of the planet. Especially not in the #MiddleEast. Indeed, in Lebanon the #ItalianContingent, which is the largest, has watched helplessly and passively as #Hezbollah has occupied the south of the country. It has done nothing, as it should have, to prevent the erection of #TerroristBases from which thousands of rockets have been launched at the heads of the #Israelis. Therefore, their function as #Peacekeeping forces has been a joke. Nor have the #UNforces been able to do any #Peacemaking, as the rules of engagement did not allow it. Is there anyone in #Rome, #Paris, #London and other European capitals who understands the problem? Obviously not. Yet despite these disastrous experiences, #GuidoCrosetto, the gentle giant, or rather do-gooder of Italian politics proposes to send more #BlueHelmets. To do what? To take refuge in #Tunnels waiting for the weather to clear up? At this point it would be honest to ask ourselves the #MotherOfAllQuestions. Why not leave a useless, expensive and hostile organization like the UN? That's right: hostile. Of the #193Members, democracies are less than thirty Countries and are systematically overwhelmed, debased, boycotted by #Dictatorships, #Totalitarianisms, #Authoritarianisms, #Theocracies and every other kind of #IlliberalRegime. #Westerners seem to be possessed by a dark curse. They let themselves be guided by a sort of #GeopoliticalMasochism. So an appeal to #GiorgiaMeloni! Sooner or later, sooner rather than later, you will have to face the question of a #UNLeaving, alone or with others or, secondarily, how to design another international organization. Reforming the #CurrentUN is impossible. After 79 years it's #TimeForAChange.
