Sad that my class Advances in Community Ecology has come to and end for another year. The group of 2019 gave me the confidence to flip the class in ways I had not tried before. We learnt so much together! So, a big thank you to them for their engagement in #ACE510

Fittingly for Halloween, this week's readings for Advances in Community Ecology #ACE510 are on "landscapes of fear".
The potency of Trait-Mediated Indirects Interactions in communities --> we are realising how much behaviour matters at the community level e.g trophic cascades.
Flipped the class again in community Ecology #ACE510. I split the class in two, had each half discuss their paper as a team, and then present it to the other half of the class, pointing out key foci, quality of evidence and most compelling take-aways. A great discussion ensued!

To get our class discussion of species' coexistence in competitive networks rolling #ACE510 I asked each student to imagine explaining coexistence to their neighbour on a long-haul flight. They only had 2 minutes! I heard 20 great ideas: lots of analogies to social networks.
Inspired by Siepielski & McPeek 2010: Advances in Community Ecology is currently debating the evidence for coexistence (sensu stricto) as an explanation for why many species are found together...#ACE510
