Really honored to receive a token of appreciation from @AcekFL_Kenya during the @ACEK1968 #ACEKConference2026

From construction safety and green buildings to smart energy solutions and nuclear power, Day 2 of the #ACEKConference2026 brought together diverse perspectives on the technologies and approaches that will shape Kenya’s future.
The discussions on construction safety emphasised the importance of stronger skills, training and safety practices across the industry, while presentations on green roofs, green buildings and IoT explored how technology can improve resource efficiency, resilience and environmental performance.
The conversation also examined nuclear power as part of Kenya’s future energy mix, alongside smart energy management solutions that can improve building efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
Across these discussions, the message was clear: the future of engineering lies in turning innovation into practical solutions that create safer, smarter, greener, and more resilient infrastructure.

Day 2 of the #ACEKConference2026 explored how Kenya can strengthen the way it manages, monitors, and plans for infrastructure.
Eng. Kundu Achoka challenged the profession to look beyond routine maintenance and embrace Strategic Asset Management as a long-term, lifecycle approach that brings together finance, procurement, engineering and technology. As he put it, “Asset management is not maintenance.”
The discussion also turned to the role of Artificial Intelligence and digital technologies in closing Kenya’s infrastructure data gap. Eng. Wanja Kinyua’s National Accountability Engine proposed using AI, IoT and remote sensing to improve infrastructure mapping and condition assessment, helping shift maintenance from reactive responses to predictive and proactive action.
Together, the sessions highlighted a critical message: better infrastructure decisions require better data, stronger strategic thinking, and a shift from managing problems after they occur to anticipating them before they do.

Cabinet Secretary for @TransportKE Hon. @davis_chirchirCS, while opening the #ACEKConference2026, noted, 'Kenya’s changing financing environment requires engineers to think beyond whether a project is technically feasible. Kenya must increasingly compete for commercial and institutional capital. This means projects must be structured to meet the expectations of investors while remaining technically sound and development-focused.'
He pointed to alternative financing mechanisms, including the monetisation of revenue streams through securitisation of fuel levies, Public-Private Partnerships and the National Tolling Policy. He challenged consulting engineers to bring their expertise into the structuring of projects that can attract long-term private capital.
