At #ACIPC18 last week heard a group who screened over 1000 patient contacts for CPE many of whom were at home, sent letter and a stool test kit. Only 0.4% positive. Lot of work, stress for patient. Not cost effective or good for the patient. Screen when/if they are readmitted.

Was telling colleagues at #ACIPC18 about the amazing impact of this act of Parliament @IPS_Infection I think a few of them were jealous that we have such a robust framework in the UK!

Prof French says we need guidelines that can be believed by people, are simple and easy to follow. Since Health Act better adherence with good patient outcomes ➡️ in the UK we were forced to follow guidelines through mandates #ImproveIPC #infectionprevention #HIS18 @HISConf

Surveillance- we need to move away from our obsession with the ineffective ‘quality improvement methodology’ as the action point- there are better approaches used by industry #ACIPC18

@mdjkf In regards to your question last night, what I took from #acipc18 , reconsidering my answer... It’s definitely this. Cleaners need to be valued, engaged, and included more in the system 🙌🏼

@glenys_infexion @patcp66 @emrsa15 @PLR_aus #ACIPC18 i think we should go after defining a national approach to hosp onset uti surveillance based around an algorithm (lab+adm date ) and coupled to coders and a program to target urine cultures more effectively (also need to measure urine cx utilization.
