What a privilege to attend a great workshop on AI in global talent management at #ADPRethink led by @GlobalEoR (G-P) COO, Nat Rajesh Natarajan.
A packed room of HR and payroll leaders from some of the largest, most complex global enterprises privately shared their maturity, progress, challenges, and learnings with AI in their organizations.
A quick summary of the feedback shared in the room:
1) AI is happening from the bottom up, not from the top down.
Most organizations are experimenting in silos, absent enterprise governance or a coordinated strategy. Experimentation ≠ transformation. Without governance, AI will stay tactical and limit its impact.
2) Skill and literacy are the real maturity gap.
Managers have tools. Frontline often doesn’t. Training is limited. Prompting is being learned through experimentation. Most are using AI, but few are skilled with it. AI skill-building is table stakes and no longer a “nice to have.”
3) Data is the quiet constraint.
Data readiness, integration gaps, and system fragmentation are major blockers. Many organizations are moving in a “ready, fire, aim” mode, leveraging tools before defining outcomes or preparing the organization for success.
4) Fear of risk is slowing progress.
Compliance concerns and organizational risk aversion are impeding adoption speed. The most mature organization in the room with AI had the clearest strategy and governance model.
5) Business outcomes aren’t clearly defined (yet).
When asked what outcomes matter most, alignment was inconsistent. Productivity gains are visible. But AI isn’t yet woven into processes “by design.” The next stage of maturity is to redesign workflows around AI, not just add AI to them.
