Today's #AlzFact: insulin resistance from Type II diabetes can cause Alz. Insulin and A-beta are broken down by the same enzyme, so excess insulin results in the enzyme using its full capacity on only insulin. A-beta then binds to insulin receptors which compounds the problem.

Today's #AlzFact: although age is the top risk factor for developing Alzheimer's, it's possible to develop the disease at a young age (as young as 30s or 40s). About 200,000 Americans under 65 have early-onset Alzheimer’s, making up nearly 5% of total US Alzheimer's cases.
