Kenningham, on EV tax credits: "It's very complicated. ... You're trying to implement that in all your dealerships. So the chances for confusion are high, I think. Hopefully, it'll get simplified. Hopefully, it'll get relaxed a little bit." #ANRetailForum #NADASHOW
Kenningham, on making money selling EVs: "We sell a ton of tires on EVs. Electrical systems are the most complicated parts of the vehicle, and they break in EVs. ... Our business, we don't believe is going to wither away when the EV penetrations go up." #ANRetailForum #NADASHOW
Kenningham says he is not worried about a recession in 2023. "We're not thinking there's going to be anything severe and we're not planning for that, but we're certainly watching things very closely." #ANRetailForum #NADASHOW
Kenningham: Group 1 is forecasting similar SAAR predictions, 14.5-15 million units, as the rest of the industry. "We predict kind of right in that range." #ANRetailForum #NADASHOW
Kenningham: "The OEMs need the dealer network more than they ever have. ... We already have the brand signs and all the infrastructure and the training and everything else. I don't know how you replicate that as an OEM." #ANRetailForum #NADASHOW
Q: How should dealers prepare for possible recession? Kenningham: Focus on service and parts. When Group 1 buys stores, "we always see underinvestment in aftersales," like equipment, training, staffing. Service withstood past recessions better than sales. #ANRetailForum #NADASHOW
Kenningham: 15% of consumers start a vehicle purchase on AcceleRide and ultimately buy a car. Many consumers still want to come to the dealership. #ANRetailForum #NADASHOW
Kenningham: "That goes up almost every month." Customers are saying they like doing business that way, and Group 1 wants to "continue to enable that." #ANRetailForum #NADASHOW
