“We know that whatever ‘status’ and ‘freedom’ we have gained as the Model Minority are illusions to keep us complacent: our status in the racial hierarchy can be taken away tomorrow by those in power.” #FACTS #NotYourCover #NotYourWedge #APA4EdEquity @Estuaryqueen @amyhsin
Majority of #APA students dont go to SHSs. School diversity is healthy for all kids, including APAs
This coalition of APA voices has been around for several years to fight for APA children &families
And we wont stop

Racial literacy and understanding the choice between Justice and Just Us is key in understanding why we are pushing for #SHSATreform

@IWW_FJU More specifically, #APA4EdEquity have the spotlight on segregation in NYC public schools. Students of color face different challenges and the playing field is not equal. We need policy that reflects that.
There are more voices surrounding #APA perspectives outside of keeping #SHSAT
@cacf and others see the merit behind #SHSATreform and how the test is hurtful to our communities.

Goodwin Liu (CA Sup Ct Justice) reveals myth of causation fallacy re: affirmative act'n benefiting minorities at "expense" of more "deserving" whites. This perception inflates the cost beyond its real proportions.

Pro-#SHSAT Metis study effectively compares exam only to *random* admissions, a laughably low bar. It doesn't compare against *selective* criteria.
Imagine Google explaining a programmer hire: "but they were better than hiring someone...walking down 8th Ave?" 😂😂

Analytical clarity:
1) If SHSAT was demonstrably superior to grades or to multiple measures, we'd then
2) weigh against public interest in equity, diversity
Controversy is mostly about step 2, a question we never reach b/c no one has shown #SHSAT is superior.

Changes to #SHSAT Discovery program directly mirror STEM admissions policies adopted by *****China***** since 2008 to increase college admissions by targeting high poverty regions and giving a small break in exam scores.

Hey, I said that! Last night I was one of very few voices critical of #SHSAT. If you are an #APA4EdEquity now is the time to speak up.
"I don't know how desegregation became a shorthand for anti-Asian in so many of these conversations." @ByJessicaGould attended Thursday's #SHSAT forum in Queens. https://t.co/f8zYN4l2dK

@CACF attended last nights Specialized HS forum. We thank all who attended, particularly those who are pushing for #SHSATreform. #SHSAT is a single-measure test that does not reflect school curriculum and supports segregation

Supporters of the #SHSAT have set their sights on the Discovery program, but @elizashapiro found that it benefits Asian students the most. Misinformation that desegregation efforts are anti-Asian hurt us all. #APA4EdEquity

100+ question tests are weaker measures of academic potential. Some w good SHSAT scores end up with Cs/Ds at specialized schools, while some Discovery students get As. Inconsistency is why #SHSAT is considered a weaker predictor than grades.

30 more black students received Discovery offers this year.
Bottom line: this is a drop in the bucket that will have no impact on segregation at the schools.
