The Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (#APWWS) has stated that it strongly disagrees with and condemns the statement made by the ZPC of #Kamle, blaming the first wife for polygamy during one of the International Women’s Day celebrations.
The full statement is reproduced below:
“#APWWS strongly disagrees with and condemns the statement made by the ZPC of Kamle, blaming the first wife for #polygamy during one of the #InternationalWomensDay celebrations. We do not expect such statements from a woman leader, especially when she was invited to speak on women’s empowerment. Her remarks send a wrong message to the younger generation. Her statement has hurt the sentiments of women across the state, many of whom are constantly struggling and fighting against the practice of polygamy. We urge the concerned news channel to immediately remove the video featuring these remarks, as it promotes a regressive narrative that undermines the fight for #womensrights. Further, we appeal to the public and media houses not to share such videos containing hurtful and condemnable statements."
