#DYK: During the Appomattox Campaign (March 29 - April 9, 1865), many Federal cavalrymen were armed with repeating rifles, like the seven shot Spencer Carbine or the 16 shot Henry Rifle. These weapons provided a firepower which the Confederates could not match. #CivilWar #APX155

#DYK: As per the surrender terms for the Army of Northern Virginia, roughly 30,000 Confederate soldiers left Appomattox CH as paroled POW's. They were issued "parole passes," which provided safe passage home and proved they were neither combatants nor deserters. #CivilWar #APX155
