The Pact for the Mediterranean is a welcome step towards a more ambitious Euro-Med partnership 🇪🇺🌍
But cities & regions must have a seat at the table also when designing and evaluating policies.
A stronger Mediterranean is built through solidarity & shared prosperity.

#ARLEM EA President @Maupertuis_N presented today her report on the #MedPact Implementation. She highlighted the importance to involve LRAs as first implementers of essential policies, through a true multilevel governance and proper means.
"No Mediterranean strategy has been a long term success until today, and this won't work until LRAs are included", she said.
🇪🇺 #MedCities also sees important gaps regarding #climatechange adaptation within the economic pillar.
✅NbS, ecosystem services, and blue and green infrastructure should be recognised as #key enabling conditions for sustainable development. #PactfortheMediterranean #ARLEM

A #Palermo la plenaria dell’Assemblea locale e regionale Euro-Mediterranea #ARLEM con la partecipazione della Commissaria europea per il Mediterraneo, @dubravkasuica, che ha presentato il nuovo Patto UE per il Mediterraneo punto di partenza per una cooperazione allargata e rafforzata tra l'Europa e i Paesi dell'Africa e del Medio Oriente. Una cooperazione che, come ribadito oggi, non può prescindere dall'includere le autorità locali e regionali per poter affrontare le sfide attuali, dalla lotta all’immigrazione irregolare alla crisi idrica, dallo sviluppo economico, fino alla sostenibilità ambientale dimostrando come il dialogo e diplomazia subnazionale sono sinonimo di concretezza. Anche grazie all'impulso del Piano Mattei fortemente voluto dal governo italiano, il Mediteranneo é ora al centro dell'agenda politica europea.
