The Ethiopian delegation led by Finance Minister, Ahmed Shide, and Governor of National Bank of Ethiopia, Mamo Mihretu, met with the IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva where the two sides discussed on how the “IMF can support” Ethiopia’s homegrown economic reform program.
IMF’s managing director tweeted after the meeting that she was “impressed by their determination to advance Ethiopia’s homegrown economic reform agenda.”
On 28 September IMF said that its program would support Ethiopia’s homegrown economic reform agenda to help address macroeconomic vulnerabilities and help unlock Ethiopia's considerable economic potential, but repeated its requirement that "a new program would also require clear commitments from development partners and financing assurances from creditors under the G20 commons framework to ensure that it can meet its objectives."
On Monday at the meeting in Marrakesh, Kristalina called for wealthy countries to provide more support to debt-burden developing countries.
"Many countries are under a burden of debt that can crush them and we very, very much hope that the meetings would be a place to build more trust among nations. We all need each other," she said.
IMF and World Bank are holding the first meetings in Africa in 50 years.

The conflict is marked by reports of civilians' causalities and human rights violations including extrajudicial killings of civilians by government forces, as was documented by the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission.
Regional media said that the main purpose of the ongoing meeting was to discuss ways of solving the "security problem in the region permanently" and enable the people of the region to live in peace.
Participants are expected to review works undertaken so far, and set forth future directions "to ensure complete and lasting peace in the region." AS
