News: #Oromia dismisses Askari Metals’ claim as ‘speculative PR,’ says licenses under review and no site access
Recent reports indicated that #Askari Metals Limited has secured USD 1,150,000 from new and existing investors to support its maiden drilling program at the Nejo Gold and Copper project in #Ethiopia and #Namibia. However, the Oromia Mineral Development Authority (#OMDA) has dismissed the company’s announcement as “a broker’s speculative PR stunt.”
In a response to Addis Standard, OMDA stated that it “does not officially recognize them [Askari Metals] as license holders.”
The Authority further explained that “the original three exploration licenses are under review due to regulatory problems with their renewal process” and emphasized that “Askari Metals has no access to the resource site.”
An exclusive report by Addis Standard earlier revealed that OMDA has formally requested the Federal Ministry of Mines to revoke three “renewed exploration licenses” held by Hong Kong Xingxu Mining International Investment Co. Ltd in West Wellega Zone, citing “material breach” of federal and regional mining laws, non-performance, and procedural irregularities.
