Rare Case Study: Managing Crocodile Bite Injuries 🐊 Dr. Gauthier Murhula FCS- @cosecsa - Plastic surgery resident @kirudduNRH presented a unique case of scalp avulsion and hand extensor tendon injuries following a crocodile attack, reconstructed at a tertiary hospital in Tanzania. Crocodile bites are notorious for high morbidity and life-threatening tissue destruction. This case highlights the complexity of reconstructing large, contaminated wounds in resource-challenged environments. The Breakdown: 🔹 Challenges: Management proceeded without microbiology results or hand X-rays—requiring high-level clinical judgment. 🔹 Outcomes: Despite complications like alopecia, hypertrophic scarring, and a "dog ear" deformity, the patient achieved functional and aesthetically acceptable results. Key Takeaways for Management: 1️⃣ Early resuscitation is life-saving. 2️⃣ Immediate antibiotic and tetanus prophylaxis is essential. 3️⃣ Specialized plastic surgery teams are vital for definitive soft tissue reconstruction. #PlasticSurgery #GlobalSurgery #CaseReport #TanzaniaMedicine #ReconstructiveSurgery #CrocodileBite #ASOUCONF2026
