Today I received two copies of This Was Once Your Home by Jamal Countess, @JemalCountess , and even just briefly going through its pages was emotionally overwhelming.
The photographs from places such as #Chagni, #MaiKadra, and #Ataye are not simply images; they are fragments of memory, grief, survival, and testimony. The faces alone speak with a force words often cannot reach. What Jamal Countess has done is remarkable. He traveled to places many preferred not to see, documented the suffering of ordinary Amhara civilians during the Northern Ethiopian war, and preserved their humanity with dignity and care. This is not only photojournalism. It is historical preservation.
I am deeply grateful to him for the courage, compassion, and seriousness required to undertake such work. I have only begun reading the individual stories, but it is already clear that this book is a priceless piece of historical evidence that future generations will look back on.
Every Amhara in the diaspora who can afford to do so should consider getting a copy, not only for themselves, but for their children and future generations. And beyond the Amhara community, anyone who genuinely cares about humanity, memory, and the documentation of suffering should engage with this work.

#Ethiopia: Human Bridge provides over 15 million birr worth of medical supplies to #Ataye Hospital to cope with repeated destruction
Local humanitarian organization, #Human_Bridge, has extended its support to Ataye Hospital in the #Amhara region by providing it with medical supplies valued at more than 15 million birr. The aid package consists of over 50 essential resources, including laboratory and ultrasound equipment.
During the handover ceremony held yesterday, Adamu Anley, the director of Human Bridge, expressed his belief that this support will significantly enhance the hospital's ability to deliver effective medical services, even in the face of repeated destruction. Wesen Asafw, the manager of Ataye Hospital, acknowledged the positive impact of the recent assistance and emphasized that the facility still requires further medical supplies. Asafw appealed to potential partners to lend their support to bridge the existing gaps.
As a result of the ongoing clashes, various organizations such as the Red Cross and the Ethiopian Pharmaceutical Supply Service Agency have been facing disruptions in the distribution of crucial medical supplies in recent weeks. Last week, Addis Standard reported on the severity of the consequences, highlighting acute shortages of medical provisions in hospitals throughout the Amhara region.
