A few weeks ago, just before Mother’s Day, while we were both in Arizona at two #AWREP events, I had the honor of speaking with my good friend and fellow AWI teammate, Karen Vaughn. Karen is a Gold Star mother whose son, Aaron Vaughn, gave everything for our country in August of 2011. Karen shared how deeply painful it is when Mother’s Day and Memorial Day fall so close together — a time when joy and grief collide. Yet she chooses to honor Aaron not only as a mother, but as a messenger — sharing the true cost of freedom with the nation. In the midst of that weight, we shared a lighter moment — laughing about the quirky, thoughtful gifts our kids surprise us with. Or don’t! That’s the balance of life — sorrow and joy, sacrifice and gratitude. This Memorial Day, may we remember, reflect, and honor. #GoldStarFamily #MemorialDay #HonorTheFallen #FreedomIsntFree #AaronVaughn #Motherhood #ServiceAndSacrifice

#AWREP in #Portland, OR! 2 veterans were each made very happy when they heard their names were coming off the waitlist for a service dog! Thanks to @MarlTrace and the @FairwayMC teams in Oregon for their work! #ServiceDogsSaveLives
