Day 3 of the 2025 #AAUN Africa Forum kicked off with an inspiring presentation by Prof. Vukosi Marivate from the University of Pretoria/@UPTuks. His thought provoking insights raised critical questions, including how creativity can be stimulated in the age of AI and the serious implications of not investing in this rapidly evolving field.
Marivate emphasized the need to support and encourage young people to harness the power of AI to drive innovation across the continent. The session was moderated by DVC SPA Dr @RayNdikumana who guided the engaging discussion with clarity and depth.
Today, Dr. Edward Kadozi, DG/ HEC, represented the Minister of Education at the official opening of the 2025 Australia-Africa Universities Network (#AAUN) Conference hosted by @Uni_Rwanda under the theme “Artificial Intelligence and Higher Education.” @Rwanda_Edu
Among the delegates at the 2025 #AAUN Africa Forum was Prof. David Mickler, #AAUN Co-Chair (Australia) from @CurtinUni. He noted that the network aims to address common issues impacting societies.
He added that the network is committed to conducting impactful collaborative research, building research capacity and fostering international partnerships for the next generation of scholars across #Australia and #Africa.
Speaking at the 2025 #AAUN Africa Forum, Prof. Aldo Stroebel from @UniMpumalanga and #AAUN Co-Chair (Africa) called on universities to keep pace with industry needs by ensuring that courses are supported and driven by AI. He noted that #Rwanda, #SouthAfrica and #Mauritius are the only countries in sub-Saharan Africa to have obtained AI readiness scores; an achievement that compares favorably to many other countries around the world.
In his opening remarks at the 2025 #AAUN Africa Forum, our Vice Chancellor Prof @mdkayihura highlighted the importance of the forum, which aims, among others, to explore how #AI is reshaping not only teaching and learning, but also the way #research is conducted.
He also added that #AI will assist in managing institutions and addressing some of the most complex challenges in societies, helping better prepare for the future.

We’re now hosting the Australia-Africa Universities Network #AAUN Africa Forum, which kicks off tonight with the Africa Steering Group Meeting, bringing together Heads of AAUN partner institutions.
Over the next two days, over 100 participants will engage in discussions around the theme “Artificial Intelligence and Higher Education,” highlighting the growing impact of #AI in shaping university education, research, and innovation.
In other news, the University of Rwanda has been selected to host the next Australia-Africa Universities Network #AAUN Forum in Kigali, Rwanda, scheduled for May 2025. This announcement was made during the ongoing AAUN Forum and Annual General Meeting #AGM held at @CurtinUni in Perth, Australia, from September 1-3, 2024, where Vice Chancellor Prof @mdkayihura was invited as a speaker.
In his presentation, Kayihura highlighted the transformative role of universities and stressed the importance of academic quality, relevance, competitiveness, and their contribution to societal development.
