How a book can claim to be about “God, Sex and Human Flourishing” but in no way engage with the reality of women’s lives confounds me, given women are the MAJORITY of Christians, & the most harmed (after LGBT people) by conservative Christian teaching. #ABSGH
The reality of sex for women is not mentioned; lack of decent men, vaginismus for women who waited, rape, myths of women being unsexual, the legitimising of testosterone fuelled Male horniness that women are responsible for taming, women expected to provide sex on demand. #ABSGH
I’ve finished the book. I am massively unimpressed. I shall write a blog soon on it. And to confirm, in the entire book Glynn doesn’t reference or cite any women at all. #ABSGH
I met a church leader who changed their church’s name because it had “family” in the title and it took one woman nine months to build up the courage to enter the building because of how messed up her family had been. #ABSGH

Except Glynn, it’s actually 25% of families that are single parent. Maybe the issue is primarily that men are socialised to be uninvolved in their kids lives? And perhaps starving children would like to eat BEFORE BEING PRESENTED WITH A COMPELLING CASE FOR MARRIAGE. #ABSGH

I find it very odd that anyone would read Ezekiel 16 about a man rescuing a newborn baby girl, raising her, beginning to sexually desire & then marry her and not seeing this as problematic. Particularly as it’s followed by a misogynistic portrayal of women & male violence. #ABSGH
This is the first time he has mentioned anything specific about women & their lives. He’s mentioned cosmetic surgery, photoshop apps & pornography, but not managed to consider a gendered analysis & the effect on women & girls, but now its about BABIES, women matter. #ABSGH
It’s almost like he has very little experience with real world young women & their real world lives. Or with the historical reality of women’s lives. Or with the history of women’s liberation & how it isn’t actually about CHOICE, but about liberation. #ABSGH
SO MUCH of this section about women’s choices is a false and made-up dichotomy. I don’t even know where to start with it. #ABSGH
Increased divorce rates don’t diminish women’s involvement with their children does it? Nobody says, “we need marriage otherwise women will abandon their children”. Men shouldn’t need MARRIAGE in order to prioritise their kids should they? Women don’t. #ABSGH
He’s now providing data about absent fathers, but rather than seeing this as an issue with masculinity & fatherhood, he sees marriage as the solution. Keep men there and they’ll be involved. But why shouldn’t divorced fathers remain deeply involved? BECAUSE OF PATRIARCHY. #ABSGH
