The Director Legal at the COMESA Competition and Consumer Commission ("CCCC"), Ms Apoche Itimu, delivered opening remarks at the ACF. She highlighted that the rapid growth of Africa’s digital economy and its rising contribution to GDP is driven by sectors such as e-commerce, fintech and digital media. She emphasized that while digital markets deliver significant benefits, they also raise complex competition concerns. Addressing these concerns requires not only robust legal frameworks but also strengthened institutional capacity and technical expertise. She stated that regional platforms like the ACF remain critical for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and equipping authorities to respond effectively to the evolving digital landscape.
