Really interesting findings from research @SHAAPAlcohol . Particularly important to think about how services exclude people from accessing support due to alcohol use or self-harm.

Data gathered from the study highlighted that participants were advocating for needs-based services rather than diagnosis-based services #AlcOcc22
Many participants reported negative experiences when presenting to A&E with a combination of alcohol use and self-harm, with some participants being "dismissed" by staff #AlcOcc22
Participants experienced challenges accessing mental health services while they were simultaneously consuming alcohol, leading many participants to "not tell the full story" when they were seeking support #AlcOcc22
While some participants framed alcohol use and self-harm as separate practices, other saw alcohol as a form of self-harm #AlcOcc22
For some participants, drinking was also framed as a replacement for self-harm as it was easier to hide #AlcOcc22
Alcohol use was described as a way of feeling both in control and out of control, depending on the situation #AlcOcc22
