I've always admired #Alison_Rowat's arts writing for #Herald, but I've never been sure of her political orientation.
Today's article, sadly, is a bit of an emotional ramble, lacking any coherence and, to my ears, a typically Scottish unionist ramble.

"Why did I know so embarrassingly little about my own country’s past? How was it possible that vast swathes of information, whole ice sheets of events and theories, had somehow passed me by? In such a state of ignorance could I even call myself Scottish?"
Some of the emotion of YES supporters has subsided today and realpolitik comes into play;
The fingers-crossed-behind-back token politeness of unionists politicians has also vanished and the hostile prose of a few journalists spills out.
Sad to see #Alison_Rowat among them ...

"Mr Sunak tail2gated his way to No.10 jas Liz Truss did before him.
"The one who led the way, who secured a large majority at a General Election, has never really left the building. #Mr_Johnson is the bad smell that no Number10 spray can eradicate.

"Hearing this drivel, a mish-mash of old Tory slogans from years gone by, the #nature of this PM suddenly became clear.
She's the David Brent of politics, a tin-eared, brass-necked, beyond embarrassment middle manager who's been mistakenly promoted to the top job."

"..the Prime Minister’s eyes stayed glued to the teleprompters, which had been set too widely apart, causing her gaze to dart from side to side like a hen fearing the arrival of a fox - or Michael Gove."
#Alison_Rowat in a brilliant satirical - and humorous -demolition of #La_Truss, achieving what few Herald columnists ever achieve - being mordantly relevant and very funny at the same time, the essence of satire.

"Brown is also retired from day to day politics. He doesn’t have constituents to serve and represent"
PM by default 2007-2010 as Labour Leader, rejected by electorate in 2010, MP till 2015, exited politics to make money, pops up talking bollox on media.

"On BBC #Sunday_Show it fell to #Douglas_Ross, leader of the Scottish Tories, to once again set out where he stood on Boris’s leadership.
Given his wavering stance previously – you’ve been all over the shop, said #Martin_Geissler – it was as well to check."
#Alison_Rowat offers the most incisive, structured analysis in the #Herald today, with #Tom_Gordon coming a fair way behind. As for Neil Mackay and the rest, the less I say the better ...

Mr #Salmond was not present to respond, but there will come a Sunday, or another day, when he will have his say.
#FM “From what I read on the committee’s website the one person who hasn’t put forward evidence to the inquiry yet is Mr Salmond himself.”

[#Jackson_Carlaw] "was like the office temp who had unwisely picked up a ringing phone as he was passing.
"Nothing had anything to do with Mr Carlaw, but he would take a message and make sure the right person received it once they returned from lunch."
