I've started taking it apart. Everything has to be removed so the enclosure can be used again. I took a look inside one of the power supplies, and at first glance, it looks fine on the inside.
One of the new machines is an #AlphaServer ES40. It’s still in the trunk of my car because I can’t lift it out on my own. It looks a little rough on the outside; let’s see if I can get it up and running again. At least it’s fully equipped with 4 CPUs :)
I picked up a few DEC items: some documentation, software, tapes, and network equipment (mostly FDDI). I also got two new machines :) (not pictured yet).
I've installed the Memory Channel controller in an #AlphaServer 800. At least the controller is detected by the SRM.
Just received a DEC Memory Channel cluster controller (version 2). I can't really test this cluster technology because I don't have the second controller or a suitable cable.
And another broken power supply. After two days of continuous operation, the #AlphaServer DS10 tripped the circuit breaker today and the power supply failed.

The connection to the #DEC #AlphaServer 800s is already established, so the switch is compatible with the KGPSA fibre channel controller. I am still waiting for longer cables for the connection to the #HP MSA1000.
Now the SAN switch in its place.
Now I have a running webserver on my #AlphaServer 800 (CSWS/Apache with PHP). Maybe a bit outdated ;)
Damaging the OS installation with a patch. The #OpenVMS 7.3-2 installation on my #AlphaServer DS10 is gone (STARTUP is set to SYS$SYSTEM:STARTUP . COM correctly). I thought that was a just Microsoft problem ;)
Interestingly, one #AlphaServer detects the controller as DEFPA and the (identical) other AlphaServer as DEC PCI FDDI

Because Gigabit Ethernet didn't work in the #AlphaServer 800, it is time for a different network technology: #FDDI. So now I have 3X-DEFPA-DC FDDI controllers for the AlphaServers

I have recorded a few additions to my last video, especially regarding the problem of the hub and the conversion of the HP NC7771 to a DEGXA on the #AlphaServer DS10 in #OpenVMS.

I was able to convert an HP NC7771 into a DEGXA Gigabit Ethernet controller for my #AlphaServer and it has been detected by the SRM and #OpenVMS
The moment when you realize that your #DEC #AlphaServer 800 only has one PCI-X slot and you cannot upgrade to Gigabit Ethernet because you will soon need the slot for another controller.
