Altria Group, Inc. - formerly known as Philip Morris Companies, Inc., is a global player in tobacco, cigarettes, and related products. Its portfolio includes Philip Morris USA, John Middleton, Inc., U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company, Inc., and Philip Morris Capital Corporation. Additionally, it has significant minority stakes in AB InBev, Cronos Group, Juul, and a recent acquisition of NJOY Holdings, Inc.
The rebranding from Philip Morris to Altria in 2003 aimed to mask the negatives associated with tobacco, insulate the corporation from political pressures, and reflect its diversified portfolio.
