Hmm… the last time they had a chance to make the QFs, they ran into the buzz saw known as the Atlanta Silverbacks. A legendary match!

Eric never pulls punches, and regardless whether or not you agree with him, you gotta respect that.

“We don't care you left. You weren't doing anything anyway. You were just occupying… wait you weren't even occupying an office. You were on your computer back home.”
USMNT legend Eric Wynalda finally reacts to departure of U.S. Soccer sporting director Matt Crocker.
“A lot of people have chimed in on this,” Wynalda said via Unleashed on GOLZ TV.
“I waited deliberately because I wanted to collect all the information about what exactly has transpired and then have my opinion about it.
“My take now is, Matt Crocker left U.S Soccer? So what?
“We don’t need him anymore. And everything that he came here to do, or rather, he's tried to do.
“Is U.S. Soccer better off because of him? That's debatable. I would argue, no, I don't think much has changed at all.
“He came to us after what we would call somewhat of a tumultuous time with U.S. Soccer, and his first task was to hire a coach from his post out in London, because that's where he was living.
“He never really rolled up his sleeves and figured it out. He let Oguchi Onyewu do most of the hard lifting.
“He just hired Gregg Berhalter back after all of that, you know, the whole Gio Reyna saga, all of the problems that seemingly existed there, but that was just a placeholder to figure out how we could get a U.S. national team coach who was going to lead us in a very important time.
“Then we hired two coaches who were at the same club [Chelsea] who were in close proximity to where Matt Crocker was residing.
“Literally this global search was a two block search and a meeting at Starbucks. Emma Hayes becomes the coach, great, and then [Mauricio] Pochettino, who was right down the street.
“Some f*cking global search that was that was, pretty incredible. That's called lazy.
“We don't care you left. You weren't doing anything anyway. You were just occupying… wait you weren't even occupying an office. You were on your computer back home.
“You had figured out how to convince some people as a consultant. That’s what we should have called you.
“You were a consultant, a glorified consultant, who was helping the United States find a couple of coaches that just happened to live down the street and probably cost you about 10 quid to buy a couple of cups of coffee at Starbucks and figure all this out.
“A lot of people call that smart. I'm still going to go back to the word that keeps ringing in my head. You're lazy, and we don't have time for lazy, right?
“I think what also happened here after you piled all of your work on top of Gooch’s desk is when you were actually asked to do the job, when you were asked to come to Atlanta, when you were asked to get in a room with the ECNL folks, with USYS, with MLS, you were like, ‘Holy sh*t. Is this stuff confusing, convoluted and absolutely unfixable.’
“And that's the moment where you put your name back out there. It wasn't because the U.S. lost a couple of games that isn't even on your watch.
“But this is so smart in this sense that perception is paramount. Because if the United States national team does really well in the World Cup, you're gonna pat yourself on the back and say, ‘Look at my work. This is my work.’
“If they fail miserably, you go, ‘This is what happens when I leave.’
“Man, you put yourself in a good spot here, and we've been played. Let’s face it, we've been played. That's how this works.”

@EricWynalda That’s why we brought our son Archer to Spain 6 years ago. The US system is a dumpster fire and has been for ages. #AlwaysASilverback
12 years ago tonight. Soccer Bowl 2013. The Silverbacks lost to the New York Cosmo P Kramers. I really miss this and frankly have no hope that it will be replicated here in Atlanta anytime soon.

The Perry Mason/Matlock fan in me is interested in the legal intricacies of this case. The American soccer fan in me is refusing to get my hopes up that anything good will come from this. #AlwaysASilverback
This, from a former insider, offers a sense of NASL's likely trial talking points
1. NASL wasn't up to D1 standards, not a serious competitor to MLS, and waivers sought were often due to poor business planning, BUT
2. USSF's subsidy of MLS through SUM + the PLS held NASL back
