OTD 1912 Jerome Cornfield b (d 17 Sep 1979) 🇺🇸#ASA_Fellow 1951, #AmStatPresident 1974. Did not finish grad school but made major contributions to likelihood, Bayesian inference, multiple logistic regression, & esp clinical trial design. Major role in establishing causal link..1/2

In his #amstatpresident address he said what "distinguishes the present-day professional statistician is his interest and skill in the measurement of the fallibility of conclusions". His aim was “improving "understanding of the world around us by statistical thinking”
