Darrin Lowery an anthropologist with a PHD in anthropology and geology, working for the Smithsonian institute, has unearthed a veritable treasure trove of artifacts on the small Parsons Island region off the coat of Maryland, in the Chesapeake Bay. Due to erosion along the island's perimeter artifacts began to become exposed. And because sediment layers can be dated, he was able to determine the age of said artifacts. Here we can see an in-situ bipoint biface found within the exposed and eroding paleosol (an ancient soil) He was able to establish continuous human activity previous and through to the Clovis "first" time period, starting some 22,000 years ago. This was during the last glacial maximum which ended apx. 14,000 years ago. This points to an astonishing 7,000 year period of human activity along the east coast of North America during the last Ice Age. And could lead credence to the notion of an Atlantic migration currently considered unheard of.
