Whenever the rains were stuck in the skies, Africans would beat drums to appease higher powers to release the waters. Then came Europeans with toxic cloud seeding mechanisms to impregnate the skies and they call this innovation. Drums have always had a spiritual significance in Africa when it comes to different forms of communication. Nowadays, beating the drums has been relegated into being a source of attraction for European tourists, its sacredness has been eroded by colonial acts. The Africans who earn a little bit more in this colonial environment have even adopted the act of fitting their houses with Bartolomeo Cristofori's piano. As an African , what are you going to communicate with that colonial object in your house? What ancestor or higher power will open its ears to the sound of a piano? Do you consider it barbaric to have a drum inside your house? To beat the drum? These are rhetorical questions, what I am highlighting is that colonialism is tempering with African spirituality - the European standard has been elevated into being the best form of civilization.
