16 marzo 2015 – Muore Andy Fraser, bassista dei Free
Andy Fraser muore a 62 anni nella sua casa in California. Bassista e compositore dei Free, aveva contribuito a scrivere uno dei brani simbolo dell’hard rock britannico, “All Right Now”. Entrato nei Free a soli 15 anni, portò nel gruppo un basso essenziale e melodico, decisivo per l’equilibrio sonoro della band accanto alla voce di Paul Rodgers e alla chitarra di Paul Kossoff.Dopo lo scioglimento dei Free proseguì tra progetti musicali e scrittura di canzoni per altri artisti. Con la sua linea di basso su “All Right Now” firmò uno dei riff più riconoscibili della storia del rock.

Andy Fraser nasce a Londra il 3 luglio 1952. A soli 15 anni entra nei Free, band fondamentale del blues rock britannico, portando un approccio al basso innovativo, essenziale ma potente, capace di fondere groove, melodia e solidità ritmica in modo naturale e istintivo.
È co-autore di “All Right Now”, brano scritto con Paul Rodgers in pochi minuti dopo un’esibizione poco convincente, diventato in breve tempo un inno rock assoluto. La sua linea di basso, incisiva e priva di orpelli, resta un modello di sintesi ed efficacia nel rock blues.
Dopo lo scioglimento dei Free, Fraser prosegue la carriera con Sharks e la Andy Fraser Band, oltre a scrivere per artisti come Robert Palmer e Rod Stewart. Negli anni successivi affronta con coraggio la malattia e dichiara pubblicamente la propria omosessualità, diventando simbolo di determinazione e autenticità.
Andy Fraser muore nel 2015 in California, lasciando un’eredità musicale che vive in ogni riff pulsante che ha composto, scolpendo il suo nome nella storia del rock britannico come uno dei bassisti più talentuosi e versatili della sua generazione.

10 years ago today we lost Andy Fraser, an absolute bass and song writing legend who was an influence to a whole generation. It was a pleasure to know him, RIP mate.. pls RP
