106 years ago today — on November 2nd, 1917 — the British issued the Balfour Declaration (written and signed by Arthur Balfour who was serving as foreign secretary in the British government), endorsing the Zionist project and, in effect, the subsequent forceable displacement and ethnic cleansing of Palestines in the century to follow. As Edward Said put it, the declaration was “made by a European power … about a non-European territory … in a flat disregard of both the presence and wishes of the native majority resident in that territory”. #BelfourDeclaration #Palestine
