“Muslim” has become a bad word in the West because of Islam’s refusal to #BanSharia. Islamists in America are openly now talking about taking over certain cities because of demographic conditions. Look at the content of #Arabcon. It should truly scare us. Sharia law will impose ban on girls going to school and will mandate the marriage age to be nine and up for Muslim girls. Eventually. This is awful stuff and must be discussed openly.
ArabCon’s Betrayal
As a non-Arab genocide scholar, I write this with clarity: #ArabCon claims to stand for Arab liberation, narrative sovereignty, and solidarity with Palestinians.
Yet this year, they chose to hand the microphone to Mehdi Hasan, a man who for years has dehumanized Palestinian resistance by calling it “terrorism,” who sanctifies Israeli occupation forces as “soldiers,” and who collapses every form of armed resistance into the word “Hamas.”
Hasan built his career laundering genocide as debate. He platformed Zionists unchallenged, framed genocide as a legal technicality, and consistently taught Western audiences to view Palestinians as abstractions rather than people. That isn’t neutrality, it’s complicity. And it greased the wheels for silence when the bombs rained harder.
At ArabCon, this betrayal was not abstract. When a Palestinian activist, Mo Hamzeh, directly challenged Hasan from the floor, he did what he has always done: talked over Palestinians. He reframed resistance in colonial terms, declaring that resistance should only be directed at “combatants” and condemning “terrorism.” In doing so, he reproduced Israeli propaganda word for word: labeling Palestinian fighters “terrorists,” calling occupation forces “soldiers,” and reducing all armed resistance to “Hamas.”
This framing is false and dangerous. In an apartheid settler state where nearly the entire Jewish Israeli population is funneled through the military, the distinction between “civilian” and “combatant” is weaponized to protect colonizers while erasing the systemic violence of settlers. Hasan ignored the fact that settlers who steal land, occupy homes, and party on stolen soil next to an open-air concentration camp are not neutral bystanders. He ignored that “hostages” are overwhelmingly IOF soldiers or former IOF—prisoners of war under international law. And he erased the simple truth: resisting occupation is a right protected under international law.
By giving him a stage, ArabCon betrayed its own mission. A space that should center #Palestinian voices instead rewarded a profiteer who commodified their suffering. A convention meant to honor resistance turned into yet another venue where narrative violence is crowned as solidarity.
This isn’t a booking mistake. It’s a choice. And it tells Palestinians, yet again, that even in spaces claiming liberation, their stories can be stolen, mediated, and sold back to them through the mouths of those who helped make genocide palatable.
ArabCon cannot claim to defend Palestinian dignity while platforming collaborators. The fact that Mehdi Hasan was even given a stage and presence at ArabCon is reprehensible. Every single person who facilitated it should sit with the weight of what they endorsed.
Shame belongs to the organizers who allowed it.
Shame belongs to the institutions that keep recycling collaborators as thought leaders.
And shame belongs to anyone who looks at genocide profiteering and calls it solidarity.
