The final #ArchiveCalendar box contains this unusual, decorated #IronAge loom weight, found inside a building which formed part of a wider settlement, with evidence of ongoing textile production. We wish you all a very #MerryChristmas, and a #HappyNewYear! #Archaeology #OneSleep

#ArchiveCalendar Box 23 - We open the lid and two faces stare back at us... Both #Roman! One 'Oxford red-slip ware' flagon handle (dating to the mid C3rd to 4th), one greyware. The face on the former is 'press-moulded', the second gently pinched into place #Archaeology #TwoSleeps

It’s a large Roman jet bead being cleaned under the microscope by Wessex Archaeology's conservationist. For an image of them being excavated at Boscombe Down, see: https://t.co/Od0QO2D7z7 #ArchiveCalendar #AdventArchive #christmas #archaeology

#ArchiveCalendar Box 21 contains an exceptionally rare find! This is a #Roman 'costrel' (essentially a water bottle). On this example you can still see the holes that let the water in, and the base of the handles (the two small bumps). #Hertfordshire #Archaeology @archaeologycoll

#ArchiveCalendar Box 20 is for anyone who hasn't made their mince pies yet! It's the wheel from an 1800s pastry jigger! Found during our recent excavations at #RedcliffQuarter, #Bristol, it's made of bone and would originally have had a bone handle. #Archaeology @ChangeEstate

We’ve got another shiny find for today’s Archive Calendar – it’s another brooch but any idea what period it comes from? #ArchiveCalendar #AdventArchive #christmas #archaeology

#ArchiveCalendar Box 19 contains an exquisite #Roman T-shaped brooch, from South #Gloucestershire. It's just one of 27 brooches we found on the site (yes, 27!). What appears to be decoration is actually the framework into which coloured enamel would have been set. #Archaeology

#ArchiveCalendar Box 18 is a delight! Five stunning Early #BronzeAge vessels, recovered during excavations in #Pembrokeshire - some are collared urns, others are 'accessory' (mini) vessels. Each was found close to a burial or cremation, or was itself a cremation urn. #Archaeology
