Last year, I moved on from headship to take up a role as a School Improvement Advisor for the trust. I left behind an incredible school and community that I was privileged to serve as Headteacher for seven years. Braunstone Community Primary School sits in one of the most socio-economically deprived areas of Leicester and Leicestershire. Yet, the outcomes achieved by pupils at the end of the 2024/25 academic year were truly sensational — across the board. This national recognition is testament to what is possible when ambition, belief and care are lived every day. What makes this achievement even more special is the way it was achieved: with joy, dancing, laughter and a deep sense of belonging. High standards and high happiness were never mutually exclusive — they went hand in hand. I was surrounded by the very best colleagues a headteacher could ever wish for, the very best children, and an incredible community who believed in their school. I left as a deeply proud leader. This recognition belongs to everyone. It reflects the school’s values — Belong, Care, Persevere, Succeed — not just as words on a wall, but as principles that genuinely shaped practice and helped every pupil become the very best version of themselves.
