@DanielC39751899 @econ_gal8 @drlisadcook @ToniDM @DrCMoser As an undergrad at UC Berkeley I was usually one of a handful of students of color (in lecture halls of over 300 students) in my classes. My favorite thing about my time at MSU was being in a cohort of diverse students all interested in economics!!
@ToniDM @AEASPmsu @econ_gal8 @drlisadcook @DrCMoser @DanielC39751899 I felt really supported by the both AEASP faculty and fellows during the program (2018)—often available after class/in office hours to answer academic/career questions. I’ve communicated with the coordinators since the program and they’ve helped me navigate my career progression.
@EconOnly @AEASPmsu @drlisadcook @DrCMoser @DanielC39751899 Adding to the previous tweet about math, some relevant quant courses include Calculus I, Calculus II, statistics, econometrics, intermediate micro and intermediate macro. Other quant econ and math courses may also be relevant in this regard. #AskAEASP
@EconOnly @AEASPmsu @drlisadcook @DrCMoser @DanielC39751899 Quant courses (econ+math) are important. Advanced students typically have 5 or more, and foundations 2, 3 or more. For applicants who are interested but have too little math, we review their records and recommend courses to take so they're ready next year. #AskAEASP
@bukifasa @drlisadcook @ToniDM @DrCMoser @DanielC39751899 The program is designed for students who, by their background, life experience, & scholarship can show they will bring greater diversity to the economics profession. There are no formal requirements other than that an applicant does not already have a PhD in economics.#AskAEASP
@EconOnly @AEASPmsu @ToniDM @DrCMoser @DanielC39751899 I’m glad you asked! Yes, we do. Students write their research papers using LaTeX and do their empirical work using STATA. We have workshops on both. There is also a workshop on R, and it’s introduced in the coursework, too.

@econ_gal8 @drlisadcook @DrCMoser @DanielC39751899 Definitely. There is an exit interview with students to discuss future plans. And we remain in touch with them on an ongoing basis, sharing advice on their next move and supporting their applications. Alumni also turn to other alumni for advice. #AskAEASP
@ArkeyBarnett @econ_gal8 Great responses, @ArkeyBarnett! We’ve had poli sci, engineering, public policy, math, computer science, and many more majors in addition to econ majors to apply and succeed in the program. #AskAEASP
Please keep in mind that, even if you already have your BA and/or MA and are interested in getting a PHD, you are still fully eligible for the AEASP. #AskAEASP

@ArkeyBarnett Hi Arkey! Some of my favorite moments when I did the AEASP in New Mexico was also studying with my friends. Do you still keep in touch with your cohort? @ArkeyBarnett #askAEASP
One of my favorite memories from the AEA Summer Program was staying up with my study group going over econometrics before the exam and I was thankful to have everyone there and know that we were all in this together!! It brought me confidence and excitement #AskAEASP
@Kaleb_Javier @DrCMoser Good question!
A few from Summer 2019:
College enrollment & residential gentrification
Economics of jazz music (jazz musicians)
Incarceration & residential gentrification
Non-competes & labor-market outcomes
College students & food insecurity

@econ_gal8 @AEASPmsu @drlisadcook @DrCMoser @DanielC39751899 All US citizens and permanent residents admitted receive financial aid. The econ major would be a plus, but not at all a necessary condition. Non-econ majors who are interested in econ and completing econ courses are definitely encouraged to apply. #AskAEASP
Applicants often want to know how many students will be admitted into the program. Well, the answer is that approximately 35-40 students are expected to be admitted to the AEASP. #AskAEASP
#AskAEASP What kind of research questions have previous students worked on in the research methods class at the summer program?
@drlisadcook @DrCMoser
Students often ask us whether there is a schedule with detailed topics that will be covered during the two months.
