Valenza seems nice. Since it’s one of the Colonia, it’s got some of the most advanced infrastructure in the world (running water and good sewage are a big +), but it’s also freer than the rest of the Colonia and safe from outside threats.
#AugustWorldbuilders I used to ask IF you would like to go to your fantasy world, would you? But for this one, we're pretending that it's inevitable. For whatever reason, you are transported to your world and MUST live there. So, where do you make your home?
Day 31. Where in your world would you like to live?
The Skeleton world.

Aw hell yeah I'll go there! I'll be a scribe. Or do a bit of teaching. Send me out to Whetstone; I'll settle into country life very happily indeed.

Pretty much all of my worldbuilding stuff is done in Word (I use Office Professional 2021), stored on my hard drive, and backed up on multiple flash drives.
I do have a map and some drawings from when I started, but the map is non-canon now.
#AugustWorldbuilders, hello friends! It's the end of the month and I like to use this time to ask broader questions about your worldbuilding process.
What do you use to store worldbuilding information? Do you have any software, notebooks, or is it all in your noggin?
Day 30. What topic have you gone down the rabbit hole to research for worldbuilding?
Scythe.

I've gone down some odd rabbit holes for research, such as diving into exactly how different poisons work or how certain injuries could prove fatal.
My most recent research is into certain techniques in anime to see how they function in-world...
Hey there, #AugustWorldbuilders! Today's extra day question is for those of you who like to learn more about the real world in preparation for writing about a fantasy world! What 'research rabbit holes' have you gone down lately for your worldbuilding?
Had to dig into aerogels while figuring out how to build a very very big bridge in low gravity. Fascinating stuff. I'm pretty sure you could build a bridge out of them, with a bit of support.

Not exactly about worldbuilding, but I watched wayyyyy too many fencing videos this month. Hopefully that'll help me write even better fights 🙏

Magic comes from the Outerworld, a parallel dimension which serves as almost the subconscious of the universe. The emotions and ideas of all dreaming creatures influence it and can concentrate into alds or demons.
Good morning, #AugustWorldbuilders. What is the origin of magic, if there is one in your world? Does it 'come form' somewhere? For instance, is there a realm of magic? Are souls magic? Does it come from a physical object?

Typically, magic takes mere seconds to cast, but more complex fields (like healing) or rituals (like summoning alds) can take hours due to their intricacy.
#AugustWorldbuilders, hello! Have you thought about the time it takes for magic to work? Or how long it lasts? Does any magic take a long time to cast or perform a ritual? Are there any magical effects that, one cast, can affect an area for an extended period?
Day 29. What do you use to store worldbuilding info?
My notes app on my phone.

Day 28. Does magic come from anywhere?
The Skeleton world. If it was destroyed, so would be Skeletons.

Day 27. Does anyone magic take a long time to cast?
To create a door. It's hard and takes a lot of aura.

I store everything on my own computer + backups on github. The only thing physical is an old map (which I've since digitized).

What do you use to store worldbuilding information? Do you have any software, notebooks, or is it all in your noggin?
It depends on the world, really - for some stories I've got a separate doc with bits and pieces of info in, for some it's just in my head or on the page.
I spend a lot of time ctrl-f-ing terms in my own manuscripts to remember what I already established!

#AugustWorldbuilders All my notes for Daunjor are written down in classic notebooks.

Magic originates from a wide variety of sources - the land, daímōnic blood, prayer - but all of these ultimately tie back to the immaterial realm of the Ghir Madi, and from there, to Truth.
MORAL SUPPORT begins next Friday!
