The malice of Satan is directed toward all of the Lordโs disciples. The Lordโs use of the plural pronoun you in verse 31 indicates the desire of the devil to sift every child of God. His aim is to cause our faith in #Christ to fail, or literally, to be torn asunder.
On this occasion, the assault would be particularly targeted at #Peter, but the #Lord informs him that He has already #prayed for him. How precious is the thought that our great high priest prays for His people individually. Peter was the focus of the Lordโs prayer, and so is every believer. Our #Saviour intercedes for us by name.
He also prays before we encounter a trial. We do not know what lies ahead. Peter did not know the events that would befall him nor the manner in which he would deny his Lord. But #Christ knew and prayed ahead of time that Peter would be kept from total and final failure. We do not know what each new day will bring, but our Saviour knows and has already interceded and obtained the grace to keep us from falling utterly.
Christโs intercession is always successful. Observe the confidence with which the #Lord spoke to Peter: โI have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.โ Peter would stumble and fail, but he would be restored again and become a means of strength to his #brethren. Such is the effect of the intercessory ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ. Christ always obtains what He prays for. The Father always gives what His Son asks. As we face the journey of faith with all of its hardships, let us take courage from the fact that Christ can not fail in His intercession for us. ๐

The letter from Jeremiah to the captives in Babylon was devastating.
False prophets had been assuring the Jews that their captivity would soon end. But Godโs prophet tells them to make a home in Babylon because they were going to be in that most undesirable situation for a long time. Jeremiahโs letter shattered their hopes about any soon-coming deliverance. How very black and bleak the future looked.
God knows the great mistake His people make at times like this is to conclude that He has โin anger shut up his tender merciesโ (#Psalm 77:9), that there is no hope for brighter days. Such thinking would be understandable among the Jews since they were in this predicament because of their failure to obey God. Disobedience to the Lordโs word always carries with it a hefty price tag. But the Lord gives His people a โgood wordโ of comfort and hope (#Jeremiah 29:10) and it is a good word for you, child of God, if you find yourself in similar straits.
Our dread and anxiety over the outcome of our worst affliction is easily removed by simply believing and resting in this word from God. Godโs thoughts toward His people speak of His gracious purpose regarding their happiness. The eternal, unchangeable purpose of God toward all of His children is to do them well. It is never to do them evil; never to harm them, to abandon them, or to give up on them in disgust because of their many faults and failures. When you think that God has forgotten all about you and has left you to your sin and just deserts, the fact is that God has never once stopped thinking about His plan to bless you. Therefore, your future, however dark it may seem just now, is as bright and secure as heaven itself.
