Having fun with @BCPSSci and third grade lesson on static electricity. @Pleasant_Plains @GIS_Cromwell #BCPSFromHome #ParentEdition
By popular demand, I have captured my thoughts from this tweet thread onto one page. Unfortunately, I had to simplify everything so it would fit and of course it lost some of the nuance and explanation, but I hope it helps anyway! #BCPSFromHome

I haven't taught K-12 students in an online environment, only adults. Here are some of hot takes on successful synchronous online teaching based on my experiences. Maybe they can help some of my #BCPSFromHome colleagues if modified for younger learners. Sorry for the length! 1/
... To be clear, those are actual consideration questions, not suggestions masquerading as questions.
I'm sure I will think of more advice. Maybe I will make a graphic of some kind to put them all in one place. I'd love eLearning Teachers to add their 2 cents! End #BCPSFromHome

@Jennzer @MFigola So true! Having this mentality allows me to have fun with my students in a different way! This is my current normal. I’ve stopped swimming against the current. This experience will make me a better f2f teacher! Thanks @Jennzer for you nuggets of wisdom! #BCPSFromHome
To my BCPS teacher colleagues; teaching online will NEVER look the same as teaching in person and that's okay. Classroom best practice may not be the same as online best practice. Permit yourself to try and fail. You are 1st year teachers again. #BCPSFromHome

Wearing our green for #PPESPantherPride spirit week. #BCPSfromHome isn’t as easy as it seems; even for this educator momma. We are enjoying things like spirit week challenges and time together more than academic lessons. But it’s only day 3. We’ll get there. @Pleasant_Plains

My joy this morning... my daughter's first Class Meet. Her classmates were thrilled each time someone joined. They helped each other with settings, reminded people to turn off their mics, & asked excellent ?s on how to navigate remote learning. #BCPSfromHome @Pleasant_Plains
Week one of #BCPSfromHome for this kiddo. Also a virtual spirit week @Pleasant_Plains. We made her schedule, set up her learning space, and then enjoyed the weather. The “real” work will start tomorrow.

Hey BCPS Ts! You know who had to be good at video conf. tools almost overnight? My daughter’s pastor, Girl Scout leader, ballet teacher, & 92 yr old ggrandma. And they had WAY less training & support. It will be perfect no matter how it turns out. You got this! 👊#BCPSfromHome
A2 I wonder how my colleagues are feeling about next week... I wonder how many students will be able to join their teachers online next week... I wonder how this experience will impact public education next year... so many wonders. #BCPSfromHome

Keep everything in perspective. Replace “working” with “teaching” or even “learning” and this still holds true. No one expects you to become an expert remote learning teacher overnight... or even over a few weeks. Just try your best! #BCPSfromHome
"You are not working from home; you are at your home during a crisis trying to work."
I've heard this twice today. I think it's an important distinction worth emphasising.
A1: I worry most about what to say when hearing about others’ concerns, anxiety, & frustrations about things beyond one’s control. I worry less when moments of gratitude, newfound resolutions, & positive vibes are shared. #BCPSFromHome
@Jennzer #BCPSfromhome A1/Q3 I hope when this is all over that people continue to talk walks, reach out to old friends and spend more time talking to one another
#BCPSFromHome A3- I hope teachers know there are lots of people who’ve got their backs! Their SDT, DC, admin, RTs, and soooo many more. Don’t be too embarrassed or too proud to reach out to SOMEONE and ask for help. This is new to all. We’re in this together.
Q2: I wonder if this pandemic will lead to some meaningful change in education. What have we fought to protect? Relationships + instruction. What have we easily (happily) kicked to the curb? Testing, paperwork, red tape. What a world. #BCPSfromhome
A1 These days, I worry about a lot of things. I try to keep those thoughts from maintaining space in my head #BCPSFROMHOME
A1: I hope ... that we all pull together like I know we can during this new challenge and that it leads to new successes, new learning, new discoveries, increased access, and potentially even digital snow days in future years to avoid calendar drama! We can do this! #BCPSFromHome
