#Sinlaku is a super typhoon & will remain powerful as it crosses the #Mariana Islands between #Rota & #Tinian Tues, a path similar to #Bolaven in 2023. Sinlaku will eventually recurve to the NE late next week which can teleconnect to a trough in the eastern US in late April.

Typhoon #Sinlaku is now a Cat 3 hurricane equivalent & is expected to be a Cat 4 hurricane equivalent by the time it crosses the Northern Mariana Islands Tuesday. The latest track looks similar to #Bolaven in 2023 which was the last strong typhoon to impact the archipelago.

#Sinlaku is now the first typhoon of the 2026 season & will continue to strengthen as it tracks NW. Sinlaku is expected to pass near #Guam as a category 4 hurricane equivalent Monday night or Tuesday, local time. The last typhoon to impact Guam was #Bolaven on 10 Oct, 2023.

With a minimum pressure of 900-897 mb., Super #Typhoon #Mawar has now been confirmed as the most powerful Tropical #Cyclone observed worldwide in 2023. Super Typhoon #Bolaven settles for the silver medal, bottoming out at 905-903 mb. Both storms possessed epochal winds of 185 mph at their respective peak intensities.

Pulling together an immense, Category 5 quota of energetic water vapor, Super Typhoon #Bolaven was both the aerospace engineer and the starting quarterback. He was, perhaps, the strongest storm we observed globally in 2023, and this is good enough for us to award him the #7 spot on our Top 10 list. Bolaven formed from a cluster of showers and thunderstorms early on October 6, near the sprinkling of islands known as #Micronesia, amongst the vast expanse of the Pacific wilderness. From the very moment of his birth as a named storm, models held very high expectations for this haughty system, expecting of him to at least reach high-end Category 4 status in the coming week. Not only did Typhoon Bolaven meet these expectations, but he far and away exceeded themGrowing fat, cold-hearted, and disturbingly powerful through an extraordinarily rapid intensification phase, Bolaven hit his peak intensity on the afternoon of October 11, with winds of 180 mph, and a pressure at least as low as 903 mb. Indeed, this incredible ocean tempest was just a few steps short of the Absolute Zero-perfection mark for tropical cyclones, with an impeccably frigid and symmetrical CDO wrapping around an eye so circular, you probably couldn't replicate it with a pencil and paper. Amazingly still, Bolaven maintained his perfect balance of violence and faculty for roughly two consecutive days... before the throes of an EWRC finally brought him down, thereby ending his run of grandeur. In the end, Bolaven had only fish-storm blood flowing through his rainbands, seeking no real harm on any communities. He dissipated innocently near #Alaska on October 16. We may never know for certain if Typhoon Bolaven truly was the strongest spinner of 2023--but regardless, his insanely fast intensification rate, and subsequent longevity at Category 5 strength, will be unforgettable for anyone who was witness to his remarkable achievements.
