The guy was a liar, just like @AbiyAhmedAli is. Yes, the war was not about #Badme. It wasn't even about the reason he mentions below—currency circulation. I can assure you of that. Eritrea🇪🇷 never invaded Ethiopia🇪🇹, and it certainly wasn't for such a trivial reason.
The conflict was about ideology. When #Meles abandoned his #Albanian-style communist ideology, started wearing $10,000 suits, and rode Mercedes-Benz cars he had never imagined owning before, he turned against #Eritrea. Like #Abiy has more recently, he pursued regime change in #Eritrea with the support of Susan Rice and others. That was the real reason.
But look where he and his #TPLF party ended up. You should never betray those who helped you, nor should you turn against your neighbor.

Badme is a town in the Tigray regional state of Ethiopia and the Gash-Barka region of the Eritrean border was the starting point of the 1998–2000 Eritrean-Ethiopian War.
Despite the 2018 peace agreement, its sovereignty remains disputed, especially by Tigray forces.
