Poland’s #EasternShield defense project should be EU and/or NATO funded. It should maximise opportunities to synchronize NATO #EasternFront security and defense, by coordinating closely with the Baltic States in their establishment of the #BalticDefensiveLine, and with Finland in its border defense project. These projects are excellent examples of something which “reticent” Western allies can invest in, which do not “look” aggressive. Looking aggressive is one of the reasons Germany - and therefore the EU - have been reticent to confront Russia in hard-security terms for so long. Investing in the #ThreeSeasInitiative #3SI, is another important project which offers low exposure to Germany of “looking aggressive,” while it plays a major role in strengthening NATO’s EasternFlank. In parallel, defensive border efforts must include NATO: (1) upgrading Baltic and Black Seas’ Air Policing to robust NATO-led #AirMissileDefense #AMD missions; (2) upgrading #ForwardPresence battalions to Brigades (with enabling units) and (3) significantly increasing NATO’s StandingNavalForces #SNF, for 24/7 patrolling and #FreedomOfNavigation missions in the BalticSea, BlackSea, NorthSea, HighNorth, MediterraneanSea, and AtlanticOcean.

This is the border wall Poland is building with Russia. Trump should build the same wall between Russia and Ukraine.
